Lion’s mane is an absolutely delicious mushroom and is also medicinal. It’s texture is similar to crab or lobster and some describe the flavour as tasting the same. Native to North America, Europe and Asia it can be identified by its long spines, its appearance on hardwoods and its tendency to grow a single clump of dangling spines. Lion’s mane mushrooms are favoured for their nutty taste and tender texture.
Research has found that lion’s mane may protect against dementia, reduce mild symptoms of anxiety and depression and help repair nerve damage. It also has strong anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and immune-boosting abilities and been shown to lower the risk of heart disease, cancer, ulcers and diabetes in animals.
