Nameko mushroom grow kits are used to make an outdoor bed by mixing our wood spawn substrate with hardwood shavings. The best time to make your bed is in the Spring or Summer months of July or August. Nameko’s are a cool weather mushroom and fruiting starts near the middle to end of October. You also can inoculate hardwood logs by drilling holes and placing substrate inside sealing with wax. Directions for logs are on our learn page.
Nameko’s have small to medium size caps and slender, straight stems. The caps are smooth, rounded and orange to amber in colour with a glossy sheen caused by a natural layer of gelatin coating the surface. When cooked, Nameko mushrooms are firm and silky with a mild fruity/nutty taste, some describe the flavour similar to a cashew.
Nameko mushrooms are best suited for cooked applications such as sautéing, grilling, or boiling. They are also commonly added to stir-fries or mixed into pasta and incorporated into miso soup as a natural thickener and flavour enhancer.
Nameko mushrooms pair well with meats such as poultry, steak, and fish.
Fully cook mushrooms before consuming, do not eat raw.
