Pearl oysters are an easy mushroom to grow at home and fruit well in all four seasons.
Pearls have thicker stems and larger caps, some describe the flavour as mild and nutty, seafood-like. Pearls have a slightly chewy texture and are soft with a bittersweet aroma reminiscent of anise.
Oyster mushrooms get their name from a resemblance in appearance and taste to fresh-shucked oysters.
Fully cook mushrooms before consuming, do not eat raw.
You can refrigerate kit for up to four – six weeks if not ready to fruit upon receiving or buying more than one to fruit at a later date.
