Pink oyster mushrooms are an easy mushroom to grow at home.
Pink oysters are native to the tropics and can be found growing on hardwood trees, they grow in tropical regions around the world, specifically Indonesia. Pinks are best suited for cooked applications such as sautéing, boiling, roasting, or frying. They can be sautéed or stir-fried with other vegetables, added to pasta dishes, sprinkled on top of pizza, boiled in soups, chowders, or stews. Due to their meaty texture, these mushrooms require thorough cooking, around twenty minutes, to develop their flavor.
The stunning appearance of these mushrooms often makes them a favourite with customers often not wanting to eat something so beautiful! They are delicate and shelf life is somewhat short, making it tough for them to appear on grocery store shelves. Pink oysters are very tasty, some describe the flavour similar to bacon, unfortunately they loose their beautiful colour after cooking.
Pinks love the warmer months as they prefer higher humidity/temperature than other oyster varieties. You can still fruit pinks in the cooler months by placing kit in a warmer area in your home.
